Golf Rules

Each player will list his 9-hole average which will adjust weekly to determine handicap. Scoring will be based on handicap according to a modified Stableford scoring system listed below. The league will be broken up into 2-sessions... the first session will be the first 4 weeks in which point totals will be added. The winner of session one will compete in a match play championship match on the 9th and final week against the winner of session 2. The same with the second place finishers of both sessions. The rest of the players will play in a 2-man scramble the final week. Contest holes will be offered weekly (long drive, closest to pin, and long putt) which will give added opportunities to win points. Players are given the option to choose cart partner for the season. Prizes will be awarded to league winners 1st-3rd place.

Scoring

Eagle - 5 points
Birdie - 3 points
Par - 1 point
Bogey - 0 points
Double Bogey - minus 1 point
Triple Bogey - minus 2 points
Long Drive - 2 points
Closest to the pin - 2 points
Longest putt - 2 points

HANDICAPS
To keep the playing field as even as possible we offer a handicap scoring system. Since most golfers in our league will not have a set handicap, we have put together a formula to determine handicaps - listed below. Handicaps adjusted weekly based on new scoring averages.

(9-hole average - 36) * 75% = handicap (rounded)
Ex: (44 average - 36) * 75% = 6 handicap

Your handicap number determines the extra strokes you will receive during each 9-hole round. For instance, if you are a "4" handicap you will receive 1 additional stroke on the 4 most difficulet holes (highest handicapped holes noted on the score card). *Players cannot receive more than two handicap strokes per given hole.

*Note: 1st week we will use a player's stated 9-hole avg to determine handicap; 2nd week we will use the stated avg and 1st week's score; 3rd week and beyond we will ONLY use weekly averages to calculate handicap.

**Note: A substituting player will receive a different percentage variable with his/her handicap to maintain a fair advantage to league players.

(*only applied to 2-man league play)

TEAM PLAY
Teams will be made up 2-players. Each team of 2 will be teamed up with a different team of 2 each week. The four of you will now assemble one team for the week and receive one team score for the week. You will be competing against the other foursomes each week.

TEAM SCORING
Players will play his/her own ball each hole and score each hole based on his/her handicap. As a team, 3 of the 4 scores will count - meaning each hole the team can remove the least successful score. For instance, a team may score 4, 4, 5, & 6 - the team can then remove the 6 so the total for that hole is 13. A point scale is offered based on the teams total round scoring:

100  <        = 8 team points
101-104     = 7 team points
105-108     = 6 team points
109-112     = 5 team points
113-116     = 4 team points
117-120     = 3 team points
121-124     = 2 team points
125  >        = 1 team point

INDIVIDUAL CONTESTS
Each week we will have various contests in which individual golfers can earn points. At the end of the season, points will be added up to award the point leaders prizes. The following scoring chart will apply:

Eagles (scratch) = 3 points
Birdies (scratch) = 1 point
Longest Drive (weekly) = 2 points
Closest to Pin (weekly) = 2 points
3-under or better (handicap round)  = 2 points
*Substitute players cannot win weekly points. If you are playing with a sub please remind them not to enter their names onto contest hole placard.

MANDATORY PACE OF PLAY RULES

  1. Arrive at least 5 minutes early to the tee for your tee time to ensure we are all teeing off at the correct times. If you are running late to the course you will need to meet up with your group at the spot they are at... we cannot hold groups on the tee for late arrivals.
  2. Double par maximum score. Please pickup your ball once you have hit a double par maximum score. On a part 3 this is a score of 6, par 4 is a score of 8, and par 5 is a score of 10.
  3. Lateral hazards. If any ball enters a hazard, please make your drop from where you assume the ball ended up... not from where the ball entered the hazard. Make your drop up to 2 club lengths no closer to the hole and take a one-shot penalty.
  4. One-minute max to look for lost balls. If a ball is lost in deep rough or trees, please only spend a maximum of one minute looking for your ball. Otherwise, please make your drop laterally with a penalty shot.
  5. Ready Golf! Each golfer within a group is allowed to take his/her swing when each member of the group is ready to play. If you reach your ball and are ready to hit, while other members of your group are not yet prepared, then go ahead and hit - even if you are not away.
  6. Gimme putts allowed. If your putt is less than the length from your putter head to the beginning point of your grip (usually 2-2.5 feet) then you can pick up your ball and count that putt good automatically. Take your stroke and move to the next hole.
